Question About Mythology

January 17, 2007

Chris, who is Aeneas?  I am having trouble placing him in the Greek Mythology Club.

There’s a reason you’re confused: Aeneas is not, in fact, Greek in origin. Virgil wrote the Aeniad, way after Homer composed both the Iliad and the Odessey. Aeneas was from Troy (linking him with Greek literature), and escaped when it was torched. Then he traveled the world, and eventually settled in Rome, establishing the Roman society. The Aeniad is really a patriotic work, written to amp up the Romans as to their “great origins.”

Some of that information might be slightly incorrect…I haven’t read the story in a while, and I’m working from memory
